Our History
Started in 1927, the Jensen Motor Boat Company is synonymous with the maritime identity of Seattle. Nestled on the edge of Portage Bay and surrounded by the University of Washington, this working boatyard was operated by the Jensen family & their team of craftspeople for nearly a century.
Antonius “Tony” Jensen, a Danish immigrant descended from a long line of shipwrights, started this family business with his wife, Bessie. Through hard work & ingenuity, they helped launch the proud legacy of boat building on Seattle’s waterways.
Following their father’s lead, Anchor & George Jensen continued the tradition of building the finest watercrafts in the country using the most advanced & creative technology. Anchor built the boats that George designed & the results were modern marvels that pushed the boundaries of style & tested the limits of speed.
As we assume the responsibility of the Jensen’s family history, we will endeavor to maintain the creativity, craft & culture that was born here. We look forward to contributing to the story of Seattle’s waterfront community, exhibiting the same character & integrity that have been hallmarks here since 1927. Our restaurants and surrounding tenants provide a beautiful and inspiring space for the community to gather, share a delicious meal or beverage and become part of a new legacy on the waterfront.
